SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1085
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased
to recognize Mike Frazier of Dallas, who has triumphed over
devastating losses to lead a life of service and commitment
to helping others; and
WHEREAS, On May 5, 1995, Mike, with his mother, father,
nephew, fiancée, and two-year-old daughter, ventured out into
a rainstorm to go to dinner; the excursion would change his life
forever, for the family car stalled at the Beckley Avenue bridge
and was swept into the raging waters of a creek; and
WHEREAS, Suddenly, the people Mike held most dear were gone;
only he survived and was left to ponder the event and question why
he was the only one to live through the tragedy; during the next
few years, he battled depression, loneliness, anger, and the loss
of other family members, but he refused to submit to the dark forces
and set about rebuilding his life; and
WHEREAS, His family had long been involved with music, and
his parents had given him a set of drums when he was very young;
he observed the members of his father's band producing beautiful
music that was calming and soothing to the soul; in 1986 he began
playing bass guitar, and a few years later, he became part of his
father's band; and
WHEREAS, A true music enthusiast and an accomplished
guitarist, Mike has continued his own healing process and is
helping others by performing and touring with theatrical groups
and other musicians; and
WHEREAS, Mike Frazier lost his birth family, but his
spiritual family remained by his side and helped him not only to
endure his own loss but to use his experiences to help others;
through his testimony and his music, Mike teaches the message that
one can truly survive the storm of personal loss and tragedy to
live a fruitful life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby commend Mike Frazier for his dedication
and commitment to helping others and congratulate him on his
success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
