SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1088
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize McKen V. Carrington on the occasion of his appointment
May 6, 2005, as dean of the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at
Texas Southern University in Houston; and
WHEREAS, Dean Carrington served as interim dean for the
past three years, and under his leadership, student performance
on the Texas bar exam and the job placement rate of graduates
significantly improved; and
WHEREAS, McKen V. Carrington's professional career includes
academic, corporate, and government service; he taught law for
over 18 years, and he was in academic administration for over
12 years; he has served the Southern Association of Colleges
and Schools and the American Bar Association as a member of
accreditation teams and has served in national legal education
organizations; and
WHEREAS, He was the lead liaison for the American Bar
Association African Law Initiative Sister Law School Project in
Malawi, Africa; the project resulted in several faculty exchanges,
a Fulbright scholarship, and library development at both the High
Court of Malawi and the University of Malawi; and
WHEREAS, An exemplary professor of law and interim dean,
McKen Carrington will undoubtedly continue to be a valuable asset
to the educational system of this state through his service as dean
of the Thurgood Marshall School of Law; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby commend McKen V. Carrington for
his outstanding leadership and his exceptional academic and
administrative career and extend to him congratulations on his
appointment as dean of the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at
Texas Southern University; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of esteem of the Texas Senate.
