SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1101
In Memory
of
Marcia Jean Parrish Shedden
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
commemorates the life of Marcia Jean Parrish Shedden, who died
May 27, 2005, at the age of 82; and
WHEREAS, Born Marcia Gates, she moved with her family to
South Texas in the early 1970s; she had exceptional musical
talents, and used her lifelong love of music to forge a rewarding
career; and
WHEREAS, She was playing the piano professionally by the
time she was 10; she helped support her family during the
Depression and entertained the troops in World War II; when she
was raising her children, she earned an income in a nine-to-five
job selling pianos and organs and through public performances;
and
WHEREAS, She performed with a number of entertainers,
including Gregory Hines, Phil Harris, Tennessee Ernie Ford,
and members of the "Lawrence Welk Show," and she played with the
Dean Canty Band for over 22 years; and
WHEREAS, Marcia was highly respected professionally and
personally, and she was renowned for her dauntless spirit, her
perseverance, and her resolve to live her life to the fullest;
she enriched the lives of all who knew her through her love and
compassion and her warmth and enthusiasm; and
WHEREAS, She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and
she leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by
her family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
bereaved family of Marcia Jean Parrish Shedden: her son and
daughter-in-law, Timothy and Mary Parrish; her daughters and
sons-in-law, Tamara and Paul Cowen, Trina and Michael Boothe,
Trudy and Reynaldo Garza, Trecia and Jamie Munal, and Julie
and Mike McKissick; her sister, Dottie Smith; and her four
grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
day, it do so in memory of Marcia Jean Shedden.
