legislative research, preparing amendments/substitutes for legislative
consideration, monitoring committees, information for learning fast
and efficient bill tracking procedures.  Tips on preparing talking
points and bill books to benefit the Senator during daily sessions.

calendar deadlines and changes for the 79th Legislative Session.


                     OPEN GOVERNMENT TRAINING SEMINAR

In addition to the Capitol District Office Training scheduled for
Thursday and Friday of this week, the Attorney General's Office will
be conducting an Open Government Training Seminar this Friday,
January 14, 2005, in the Capitol Auditorium from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. for
the Senate and House of Representatives--members and staff.  The
agenda includes:

Public Information Act Basics for Legislators and Staff
     What is the Public Information Act (PIA)?
     What is a governmental body subject to the PIA and are we one?
     What do I do if I get an open records request?
     How do I recognize an open records request?
     How do I respond?
     What are my deadlines for responding?
     When do I request an AG ruling and how is that done?
     What exceptions do we raise if we want to withold something
     from disclosure?
     What is a legislative request and how do I make one of an agency?

If you are planning on attending, please notify the Secretary of
the Senate's Office so that sufficient handouts can be prepared.
