FISCAL NOTE, 79TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 14, 2005

TO:
Honorable Allan Ritter, Chair, House Committee on Economic Development

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Deputy Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB299 by McClendon (Relating to the right of an employee to time off from work to participate in certain activities of the employee's child.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The provisions of the bill amend the Labor Code to allow an employee up to one hour in each calendar month to participate in a school activity that involves the employee’s child. Employers must not retaliate against employees for taking this leave, and employees are provided remedies. Employers with 10 or more employees must post a notice designed by Texas Workforce Commission.

The Texas Workforce Commission, Texas Department of Transportation, and the Texas Health and Human Services Commission indicate any additional costs could be absorbed by the agency's existing resources.

The bill would take effect September 1, 2005.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
