No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Transportation Code to make it an offense for persons to possess a mobile infrared transmitter, unless the possession is in connection with the official operation of an authorized emergency vehicle or is a transit vehicle operated by an authority under Chapter 451 or 452 or a transit department under Chapter 453. Both the Department of Public Safety and the Department of Transportation report that this can be accomplished within existing resources. The bill would take effect September 1, 2005.
