Fiscal Analysis

The bill abolishes the Texas Food and Fibers Commission (TFFC) and transfers all contracts, records, employees, property and funds to the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) on January 1, 2006. The majority of funds appropriated to the TFFC will be transferred to the Texas Department of Agriculture to maintain the research program at the appropriated level; some administrative savings are anticipated however.

Methodology

Assuming the reduction of one FTE and some minor savings in professional fees, rent, and other operating expenses, there is an anticipated savings to the state of $33,118 in fiscal year 2006 and $45,677 in fiscal year 2007.

Technology

The bill would have no technology impact.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
