LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 79TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 21, 2005

TO:
Honorable Harold V. Dutton, Jr., Chair, House Committee on Juvenile Justice & Family Issues

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Deputy Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB401 by Villarreal (Relating to creation of a volunteer income tax assistance pilot program for persons who owe delinquent child support.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would require the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) to establish a pilot program in San Antonio under which a child support obligor who is eligible for assistance from the volunteer income tax assistance program is encouraged to seek that assistance in order to maximize the amount of any tax refund to which the obligor may be entitled.  The pilot would expire September 1, 2009. The act would take effect September 1, 2005.

The OAG anticipates any legal work resulting from the passage of this bill could be reasonably absorbed with current resources.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
