LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 79TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 11, 2005

TO:
Honorable Todd Staples, Chair, Senate Committee on Transportation & Homeland Security

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Deputy Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB540 by Bohac (Relating to the designation of a portion of U.S. Highway 290 inside Harris County as the Ronald Reagan Memorial Highway.), Committee Report 2nd House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would require the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to design, construct, and erect markers designating the portion of U.S. Highway 290 inside Harris County between the Harris County boundary with Waller County and Beltway 8 as the Ronald Reagan Memorial Highway if TxDOT receives a grant or donation to cover the cost of the design, construction, and erection of markers.  The bill would require that any grants or donations received for this purpose to be deposited to the credit of the State Highway Fund.  Based on the analysis of TxDOT, the duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished by utilizing existing resources.

The bill would take effect September 1, 2005.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
