No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Insurance Code so that if a health care plan or a physician or a provider contract of a health maintenance organization provides for payment or reimbursement for a service or procedure that is within the scope of practice of a licensed podiatrist, an enrollee may select a podiatrist to provide the service or procedure and the person providing the service or procedure is entitled to the same amount of reimbursement from the health maintenance organization, regardless of whether the person is a physician or podiatrist.
 
The Department of Insurance indicates the provisions of this bill could be implemented within current resources.
 
This bill would take effect September 1, 2005.
