LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 79TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

February 17, 2005

TO:
Honorable John T. Smithee, Chair, House Committee on Insurance

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Deputy Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB584 by Delisi (Relating to reimbursement under certain health benefit plans for services provided by licensed athletic trainers.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Insurance Code related to reimbursement under certain health benefit plans for services provided by licensed athletic trainers.

The Texas Department of Insurance anticipates any additional work resulting from the passage of the bill could be reasonably absorbed within current resources.  The Texas Department of Insurance's Health Maintenance Organization area reports that it would expect an increase in complaints from licensed athletic trainers and will have to evaluate network adequacy for these types of providers.

This bill would take effect September 1, 2005.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
