IN RE:	HB585 by Corte (Relating to the requirements for the incorporation of a municipality in the extraterritorial jurisdiction of certain existing municipalities. ), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would change the procedures for incorporating an area in the extraterritorial jurisdiction of certain municipalities. Included in the procedures would be a requirement that the county judge to whom the residents must file a petition for incorporation order an incorporation election to be held as per current statute. The bill would take effect immediately if it receives two-thirds vote in both houses; otherwise, it would take effect September 1, 2005.

Based on data reported to the Secretary of State in March 2004, the average cost of an election for a local government entity is $1.29 per registered voter.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
