The bill would amend the Code of Criminal Procedure relating to certain information provided to an attorney appointed to represent an indigent defendant in a criminal case. The bill would require the court to ensure that an attorney representing an indigent defendant is provided sufficient notice of the defendant's first court appearance following the attorney's appointment. The bill would take effect September 1, 2005.
Local Government Impact
No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated. To the extent that local courts may incur costs to provide notice of a defendant's first court appearance following an attorney's appointment, the fiscal implication is not anticipated to be significant.
