No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Family Code by adopting a new interstate compact for juveniles to replace the current compact. The compact requires states to be responsible for proper supervision of juveniles while in another state and ensure they are governed in the same manner as with their home state. The Executive Director of the Texas Youth Commission (TYC) will serve as the Juvenile Interstate Compact Administrator for Texas. TYC reports a cost of $37,000 for annual compact dues. The bill would take effect September 1, 2005.
