FISCAL NOTE, 79TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 5, 2005

TO:
Honorable Mary Denny, Chair, House Committee on Elections

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Deputy Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB758 by Denny (Relating to a pilot program allowing for courtywide voting locations in certain elections.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Election Code to require the Secretary of State to implement a pilot program to evaluate the use of countywide polling places for the general election for state and county officers. It is anticipated that any costs to implement the provisions of the bill could be absorbed by existing resources.

Local Government Impact

The commissioners court of a county that desires to participate in the pilot program would bear the costs of the public hearing and the transcript or electronic recording of the hearing to submit to the Secretary of State.
