LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 79TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 19, 2005

TO:
Honorable Todd Staples, Chair, Senate Committee on Transportation & Homeland Security

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Deputy Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB988 by Chisum (Relating to the county in which a seller of a motor vehicle may file an application for registration and certificate of title.), As Engrossed

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Transportation Code to require a seller who applies for the registration or a certificate of title for a motor vehicle under Section 501.0234(a)(1) to apply in the county in which the purchaser is domiciled unless the purchaser requests in writing that the seller apply in another county. The bill would take effect September 1, 2005.

The proposed requirement is not expected to have a fiscal impact on the county tax assessor- collectors' offices, as the workload related to these applications varies a certain amount on a regular basis.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
