LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 79TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 5, 2005

TO:
Honorable Geanie Morrison, Chair, House Committee on Higher Education

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Deputy Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1214 by Morrison (Relating to tuition and other charges and fees imposed by the governing board of a junior college district.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Local Government Impact

This bill would allow community colleges to charge different tuition rates for different courses.  As such, it will have a positive fiscal impact on public community colleges.  However, because each college would be able to set its tuition rates according to local preferences, the degree of positive fiscal impact on community colleges as a group cannot be determined.
