LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 79TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 2, 2005

TO:
Honorable Dianne White Delisi, Chair, House Committee on Public Health

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Deputy Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1216 by Farrar (Relating to the promotion of breast-feeding and the prohibition against interference with or restriction of the right to breast-feed.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would require the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) to publicize physician breast-feeding friendly programs to certain physicians licensed to practice medicine in Texas, as prescribed in the bill. DSHS indicates that publicizing the programs may include mailing informational letters to 10,000 physicans at an estimated cost of $2,920 in FY 2006. It is assumed that any costs DSHS would incur in implementing the provisions of the bill would be absorbed within the agency's existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
