LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 79TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 8, 2005

TO:
Honorable Frank Corte, Jr., Chair, House Committee on Defense Affairs & State-Federal Relations

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Deputy Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1318 by Dawson (Relating to the state providing grave markers for certain members of the state military forces.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Government Code to require the adjutant general to provide grave markers for members of the state military forces who die during active military service and are ineligible for grave markers under federal law. The bill directs the adjutant general to model the grave markers after the markers provided by the federal government. The average cost for grave markers provided by the federal government is $255.  It is estimated that the costs associated with the purchase of the grave markers would not be significant.  The bill would take effect September 1, 2005.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
