LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 79TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 21, 2005

TO:
Honorable Geanie Morrison, Chair, House Committee on Higher Education

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Deputy Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1407 by McReynolds (Relating to an exemption from tuition and fees at public institutions of higher education for children of certain employees of the Texas Forest Service with fire-fighting, rescue, or other special duties who are killed or disabled in the line of duty.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Under the bill, the governing board of each institution of higher education would exempt from payment of all dues, fees and charges, children of certain employees of the Texas Forest Service with fire-fighting, rescue, or other special duties who are killed or disabled in the line of duty . The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board indicates that there were four employees since 1915 that met the requirements in the bill, therefore the fiscal impact of the legislation to the higher education institutions would be minimal.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
