No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Government Code to entitle certain commissioned peace officers injured in the course of performance of duty to injury leave, without a deduction in salary, compensatory time, or any other type of leave. Commissioned peace officers would be required to submit evidence of medical examination and recommendations for a specific period of leave from a licensed physician to the person's employer. The maximum amount of time allowed would be one year. The bill would take effect immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house. If the bill does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, the bill would take effect September 1, 2005.
