Fiscal Analysis

The bill would amend the Alcoholic Beverage Code as it relates to certain warning signs required on certain premises.

The bill would require that warning signs located on licensed premises give notice that it is unlawful for a person to carry a weapon on the premises unless the weapon is a concealed handgun of the same category the person is licensed to carry.  The sign must also indicate that the prohibition does not apply to peace officers.  The bill would take effect September 1, 2005.

Methodology

The Alcoholic Beverage Commission reports that there are approximately 36,000 locations that would be affected by the provisions of the bill.  In order to provide these locations with updated warning signs, the Alcoholic Beverage Commission reports operating expenses of $49,150 would be needed in fiscal year 2006 for printing costs ($14,640) and postage expenses ($34,510).

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
