TO: | Honorable Mary Denny, Chair, House Committee on Elections |
FROM: | John S. O'Brien, Deputy Director, Legislative Budget Board |
IN RE: | HB1580 by Bohac (Relating to the period for preserving precinct election records.), As Introduced |
The bill would require an election authority to whom precinct election records are distributed to preserve the records for at least 22 months after election day. The bill would take effect September 1, 2005 and would apply to records for an election held on or after that date.
Under current statute, authorities are required to preserve precinct election records for 60 days after election day unless the election involved a federal office; those records are maintained for at least 22 months.
