FISCAL NOTE, 79TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 3, 2005

TO:
Honorable Royce West, Chair, Senate Committee on S/C on Higher Education

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Deputy Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1630 by McReynolds (Relating to an excused absence from a public institution of higher education for a person called to active military service.), As Engrossed

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would require an institution of higher education to excuse a student from attending classes or engaging in other required activities, including examinations, in order for the student to participate in active military service to which the student is called. The Higher Education Coordinating Board would be required to adopt rules to establish the maximum period for which a student may be excused under this section. The Coordinating Board indicated that it would be able to implement provisions of the bill within existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
