LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 79TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 12, 2005

TO:
Honorable Suzanna Gratia Hupp, Chair, House Committee on Human Services

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Deputy Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1756 by Herrero (Relating to requiring posting of certain information regarding nursing homes and related institutions on the Department of Aging and Disability Services website.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Section 242.042, Health and Safety Code, by adding Subsection (e) requiring the Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) to post detailed compliance information regarding each institution licensed by the department, including the information an institution is required to make accessible by Subsection (c), on the department's website. The bill also requires the DADS to update the website as necessary to provide the most current compliance information regarding each institution.

DADS assumed that information on the website would be updated on a daily and monthly basis as necessary. DADS estimated that one-time costs of $32,900 in General Revenue Funds and $113,960 in All Funds would be needed for programming and hardware and software to comply with provisions of the bill.  It is assumed that these costs can be absorbed within existing resources of the department.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
