LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 79TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 20, 2005

TO:
Honorable Todd Staples, Chair, Senate Committee on Transportation & Homeland Security

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Deputy Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1822 by Kolkhorst (Relating to an offense of passing or avoiding a weigh station by certain vehicle operators.), As Engrossed

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would add Section 621.411 to the Transportation Code, making it an offense for an operator of a vehicle that is required by law, including a rule, to stop at a weigh station to bypass or knowingly evade an operating weigh station.

Based on the analysis of the Department of Public Safety, it is assumed any duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished within existing resources.

The bill would take effect on September 1, 2005.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
