LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 79TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 14, 2005

TO:
Honorable Jane Nelson, Chair, Senate Committee on Health & Human Services

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Deputy Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1842 by Delisi (Relating to the licensing and regulation of massage therapists; providing a penalty.), As Engrossed

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would replace the current registration of massage therapists with licensure of massage therapists.  The bill would increase the number of hours an applicant for licensure is required to complete from 300 to 500.  Currently registered massage therapists would recieve a license upon registration renewal.  Changes in law related to massage therapist licensure would apply only to applications filed with the Department of State Health Sservices (DSHS) on or after September 1, 2007.  DSHS indicates there would be no increased revenue, costs or processing workload associated with implementation of the bill.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
