LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 79TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 13, 2005

TO:
Honorable Mike Krusee, Chair, House Committee on Transportation

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Deputy Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1885 by Van Arsdale (Relating to requiring the Texas Department of Transportation to place a sign on the approach to each toll booth on certain turnpikes that describes the improvements the department has made or proposes to make using revenue collected for use of the turnpike.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would add Section 361.239, Transportation Code, requiring the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to place informational signs on the approaches to all toll booths on all TxDOT toll roads, which have been converted from non-toll roads, identifying the specific improvements TxDOT has made or has proposed to make with collected toll revenue.

Based on the analysis of TxDOT, it is assumed any costs and duties associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within existing resources.

The bill would take effect immediately upon receiving a two-thirds majority vote in both houses; otherwise, the bill would take effect September 1, 2005.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
