LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 79TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 8, 2005

TO:
Honorable Joe Driver, Chair, House Committee on Law Enforcement

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Deputy Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1925 by Driver (Relating to removal or covering of certain signs in a construction or maintenance work zone.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Transportation Code to require the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to remove or cover signs, or require the removal or covering of signs, marking a construction or maintenance work zone during any period when no work is in progress, no hazard exists, and the speed limit is not restricted.

Based on the analysis of TxDOT, it is assumed any duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished by utilizing existing resources.

The bill would take effect immediately upon receiving a vote of two-thirds of all members elected to each house or otherwise on September 1, 2005.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
