The bill would amend the Local Government Code by removing the requirement that an increase in the salary of an assistant county auditor shall not exceed 5 percent without approval by the county commissioners court. The bill would take effect immediately if it receives the required two-thirds vote in each house; otherwise, it would take effect September 1, 2005 and would apply only to a budget for the county's fiscal year that begins on or after the effective date.
