LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 79TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 29, 2005

TO:
Honorable Will Hartnett, Chair, House Committee on Judiciary

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Deputy Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2256 by Gallego (Relating to the terms of court of the 112th Judicial District.), As Introduced

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Chapter 24 of the Government Code to provide that in Pecos County the terms of the 112th District Court begin on the first Monday in May and November, rather than the first Monday in January, May, and November and the second Monday in July.  No fiscal implication to the state is anticipated, because the bill would reduce the number of grand juries empanelled during the year from four to two, which would generate minimal savings to local government.

The bill would take effect September 1, 2005.

Local Government Impact

Because the bill would not have statewide impact on units of local government of the same type or class, no comment from this office is required by the rules of the House as to its probable fiscal implication on units of local government.
