No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Local Government Code to require a county sheriff to consider entering into a contract for the operation of a county jail commissary that offers a fixed rate of return through per diem, monthly, or annual lump-sum payments. The bill would prohibit a sheriff from entering into a commissary contract that would result in the displacement of county employees. The bill would take effect September 1, 2005.
