TO: | Honorable Tom Craddick, Speaker of the House, House of Representatives |
FROM: | John S. O'Brien, Deputy Director, Legislative Budget Board |
IN RE: | HB2381 by Hegar (Relating to posting on the Internet the notice of a meeting of the governing body of a county and certain districts and political subdivisions. ), As Passed 2nd House |
The bill would authorize certain local government entities to post meeting notices on the entity's Internet website. Posting the notice on the website, when authorized, would fulfill requirements under the Open Meetings Act for posting a meeting notice in a place that is readily accessible to the general public, provided a good faith attempt is made to continuously post the notice on the website for the prescribed period of time.
The bill would take effect September 1, 2005.
The Office of Attorney General anticipates that the proposed change in statute could result in two additional requests for an attorney general opinion in fiscal year 2006, which could be handled using existing resources.
