LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 79TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 9, 2005

TO:
Honorable Frank Corte, Jr., Chair, House Committee on Defense Affairs & State-Federal Relations

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Deputy Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2501 by Uresti (Relating to permitting certain military personnel entitled to receive tuition and fee exemptions to transfer the exemption to a child.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Education Code to allow an eligible veteran to waive his or her right to a Hazelwood Act tuition exemption and transfer that exemption to one of his or her children.

There would be no net increase in the number of possible tuition waivers. The costs to the Texas Veterans Commission associated with creating procedures to this effect are minimal.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
