LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 79TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 26, 2005

TO:
Honorable Mary Denny, Chair, House Committee on Elections

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Deputy Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2508 by Bohac (Relating to exceptions to the use of uniform election dates.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Election Code to authorize the Secretary of State to adopt procedures in cases when a political subdivision makes an application with the Secretary of State to hold school bond elections on a date different from a uniform election date, and the Secretary of State finds that date to be in the public interest. It is anticipated that any costs to implement the provisions of the bill could be absorbed by existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated. It is assumed that a political subdivision would petition the Secretary of State's Office only if funds were available to hold the election on a non-uniform election date.
