Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 79TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 25, 2005

TO:
Honorable Mike Krusee, Chair, House Committee on Transportation

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Deputy Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2514 by Herrero (Relating to the weighing of a loaded vehicle.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Transportation Code to prohibit vehicle weight enforcement officers from requiring that loaded vehicles be driven to scales more than five miles away from the stopping location, unless the scales are in the same direction the vehicle is traveling.  The bill would take effect September 1, 2005.

The Texas Department of Public Safety indicates that it could absorb the costs associated with the bill within its current resources.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
