No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would require the county official responsible for election duties in the county to perform election duties for election of a director of a municipal utility district (MUD). If the district is located in more than one county, the county official in the county in which there are the most district inhabitants would handle the election responsibilities. The district would be required to pay the county for election services. The bill would take effect September 1, 2005 and would apply only to a election for director of a MUD ordered on or after that date.
Local Government Impact
Based on data submitted by local government entities to the Secretary of State in March 2004, the average cost per registered voter to conduct an election is $1.29. The cost to conduct an election would vary by district.
