No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would authorize the Department of Information Resources (DIR) to acquire telecommunications services without a competitive bidding process from The Lonestar Education and Research Network.
 
The bill would authorize DIR to contract for use of the consolidated telecommunications system with a private business that serves a state agency through an existing contract for services where the contracted entity’s use of the consolidated telecommunications system would result in cost savings.

The bill would take effect September 1, 2005.

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
