No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would authorize the governing body of a city or town to order a local option election to be held in the city or town on any alcoholic beverage issue under Chapter 251 of the Alcoholic Beverage Code. The city or town would be responsible for the costs of the election. The bill would take effect September 1, 2005.


Local Government Impact

Based on costs reported to the Secretary of State by a sampling of counties, municipalities, and special districts in March 2004, the average cost per registered voter for conducting an election is $1.29. Election costs would vary by city or town.
