IN RE: | HB2997 by Morrison (Relating to the reporting of abortion; creating an offense. ), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted |
The bill would require the collection of certain data regarding abortions. The Supreme Court of Texas would be required to report data regarding judicial bypasses, and physicians would be required to report certain data for each abortion the physician performs and for any abortion complications. The Board of Medical Examiners is to provide abortion complication report forms. The Department of State Health Services is to compile abortion reporting forms. Not later than April 1 of each year, the Department of State Health Services would be required to issue a public report summarzing the information submitted.
The Board of Medical Examiners indicates that they would have increased costs for updating their website and printing and mailing forms to physicians. It is assumed that these costs could be absorbed within existing resources. The Supreme Court of Texas estimates that any costs of reporting and compiling the required data could be absorbed within existing resources. It is assumed that any costs at the Department of State Health Services could be absorbed within existing resources.
