No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Government Code to change the time allowed for the next of kin of certain deceased inmates to object to an autopsy. The bill would prohibit the cremation of an inmate who died of natural causes while in Texas Department of Criminal Justice custody without the express written consent of the deceased inmate's next of kin. The bill would take effect September 1, 2005.
