No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would would amend the Occupations Code and the Education Code to extend certain deadlines for certain professionals serving on active duty in the military. The bill would allow a person who holds a license, is a member of the state military or a reserve component of the armed forces, and is ordered to active duty by proper authority to have additional amount of time to complete continuing education requirements or requirements relating to the renewal of person’s license. The bill would also provide an extension of the time required to complete continuing education requirements or requirements relating to the extension or renewal of a certificate or permit for educators who are called to active military service. These extensions would apply to those who are or were ordered to report for active duty on or after September 1, 2004.

 

The bill would take effect immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution; otherwise, the bill would take effect September 1, 2005.
