No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Transportation Code as it relates to the information contained on a driver's license or personal identification certificate.

The bill would require driver's licenses, personal identification certificates, and applications for driver's licenses to include the race or ethnicity of the holder.  The bill applies only to a driver's license or personal identification certificate for which an original or renewal application is submitted on or after the effective date of the bill.  The bill would take effect September 1, 2005.

The Department of Public Safety reports that there would be costs associated with the provisions of the bill.  However, these costs can be absorbed within existing resources.


Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
