LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 79TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 9, 2005

TO:
Honorable Kent Grusendorf, Chair, House Committee on Public Education

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Deputy Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB256 by Williams (Relating to the release of certain student information by a school district.), As Engrossed

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would require school districts to provide parents notice of the release of student directory information and the opportunity to object to the release of such information by means of a form attached to the notice at the beginning of each school year or upon enrollment.

The bill would apply beginning with the 2005-06 school year.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated based on the assumption that the notice and form would be incorporated into existing notification processes and sent home with students at the beginning of each school year.
