The bill would amend the Health and Safety Code to authorize the 9-1-1 emergency communication district in the Harris County area to impose an emergency service fee at a rate not to exceed 6 percent of the monthly base rate charged a service user by the principal service supplier in the participating jurisdiction. The bill would take effect September 1, 2005 and would apply only to a fee imposed on or after that date.
Under current statute, the emergency service fee may not exceed 3 percent of the monthly base rate.
