LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 79TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 7, 2005

TO:
Honorable Jane Nelson, Chair, Senate Committee on Health & Human Services

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Deputy Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB361 by Carona (Relating to criteria for voluntary admission to state schools for persons with mental retardation.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would require the voluntary admission of a Medicaid eligible individual into a state school if the state school has sufficient bed space and would provide the least restrictive alternative.  The Department of Aging and Disability Services states that there would be no significant fiscal implications associated with the provisions of the bill, assuming that "sufficient bed space" refers to the number of funded beds at a state school.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
