No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Section 42.0615, Election Code to require a political subdivision that changes its boundaries or the boundaries of districts used to elect members to the political subdivision's governing body to notify the voter registrar of the county in which the affected area exists. The political subdivision would also be required to provide the registrar with a map of the adopted boundary change not later than the 30th day after the date the change is adopted.

The bill would amend Section 43.061(b), Election Code, to require a county clerk to give notice of a change in location for a polling place not later than the earlier of 24 hours after the location is changed or 72 hours before the polls open on election day. Current statute requires notice to be given not later than the earlier of 24 hours after the location is changed or 24 hours before the polls open on election day.

The bill would take effect September 1, 2005.
