May 12, 2005

TO:
Honorable Mary Denny, Chair, House Committee on Elections

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Deputy Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB427 by Van de Putte (Relating to providing notification to a county voter registrar of the change in boundaries of a political subdivision located in the county.), Committee Report 2nd House, Substituted

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would require a political subdivision that changes its boundaries or the boundaries of districts used to elect members to the political subdivision's governing body to notify the voter registrar of the county in which the affected area exists. The political subdivision would also be required to provide the registrar with a map of the adopted boundary change not later than the 30th day after the date the change is adopted. The bill would take effect September 1, 2005.

Local Government Impact

The notifying political subdivision would incur the administrative costs associated with notifying the county registrar and the costs of having a map produced. The receiving voter registrar would incur administrative costs for processing the received materials.

No significant fiscal impact to units of local government is anticipated.
