IN RE:
SB450 by Wentworth (Relating to the confidentiality of certain personal information regarding the employees of a prosecutor's office. ), Committee Report 1st House, As Amended

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Section 552.1175, Government Code, to allow employees of a district attorney, criminal district attorney, or county or municipal attorney whose jurisdiction includes any criminal law or child protective services matters to request that certain personal information be kept confidential in public records.  The bill would take effect immediately if it receives a two-thirds vote in each house; otherwise, it would take effect September 1, 2005.

The applicable employees would be responsible for submitting the request.  The government entity for whom they work or other government entity with whom they submit a request would be responsible for maintaining the requested confidentiality, which would result in some administrative actions.  Documents filed in tax appraisal records and documents filed with a county clerk or a district clerk are exempt from the requirements of Section 552.1175, Government Code.
