LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 79TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 18, 2005

TO:
Honorable Jeff Wentworth, Chair, Senate Committee on Jurisprudence

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Deputy Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB505 by West, Royce (Relating to registration of arbitrators and arbitration services providers with the secretary of state.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Civil Practice and Remedies Code to require arbitrators and arbitration services providers to register annually with the Secretary of State's Office and to submit a $10 filing fee with the initial registration. The amount of revenue generated from the filing fee is unquantifiable because it would depend on the number of arbitrators and arbitration services providers that register with the Secretary of State's Office.

The bill also would require the Secretary of State  to maintain an updated list of arbitrators and arbitration services providers and make the list available to the public. It is anticipated that existing resources could absorb any associated costs.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
